The Girl at the Farmhouse Gate

Set in early spring 1944, during the buildup to the Allied invasion of northern France, the story follows Alice Todd as she starts her second year as warden of a Land Army hostel in Devonshire. She has earned the trust and affection of the young women she oversees, becoming involved in their diverse and often compelling lives, which range from humorous to tragic.
