Justin is dispatched to the town of Neft to investigate the Daughters of the Pale Mother at the nearby Lumanen Convent, only to discover their persecution of mystics and their supporters. As he becomes entangled with Ellynor, a convent novice from the Lirrenlands, their forbidden connection faces numerous dangers, including cultural restrictions and the convent’s hostility.
