In 1674 Leiden, private investigator Master Mercurius finds himself embroiled in a web of intrigue after the murder of a colleague at the University of Leiden. Tasked by William of Orange to spy on state officials amidst national unrest, Mercurius's investigation takes a dark turn when another murder surfaces, leading him to suspect a serial killer is at large. As he delves deeper into the mysterious deaths, he must navigate potential plots against the Dutch ruler while racing against time to solve the case.
