In 1920s California, grieving writer Fayette Wynne retreats to Carmel-by-the-Sea to find solace and complete her latest project. However, her isolation is disrupted when a violent storm leads her to rescue rising star Rex Hallstrom, and they take refuge in a mysterious cliffside house that seems to possess a will of its own. As their friendship deepens, Fayette and Rex uncover local legends about the house's cursed origins, which offer both comfort and challenges as they seek healing from their pasts.
