Carl Felman, a young man returning to his parents’ home after an extended absence, has led a tumultuous life that includes stealing, military service, and travels across America as a hobo. Dreaming of being a poet despite lacking formal training, he embarks on a journey of self-discovery that leads him to find his voice while grappling with an emerging personality at odds with the world he seeks to portray.
