"A Predicament" is a humorous short story by Edgar Allan Poe that satirizes the Gothic sensation tale. It follows Signora Psyche Zenobia as she strolls through Edina with her diminutive poodle and her tall servant, Pompey. Curiosity leads her to a Gothic cathedral, where she finds herself peering through an opening at the top, discovering she is face-to-face with a giant clock. This playful narrative cleverly intertwines Gothic elements with comedy.
