Ambrose Bierce, born in Ohio in 1842, developed a deep appreciation for literature amidst a challenging childhood characterized by poverty and strict religion. His experiences as a soldier during the Civil War inspired several of his stories, and he later became a renowned writer and editor, publishing notable works such as “The Devil’s Dictionary” and “An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge.” His life was marked by personal tragedies, including the loss of his sons, and he ultimately vanished without trace after departing for a journey in 1913.
