Twilight Alley

Stefan Zweig, born into a wealthy Jewish family in Vienna in 1881, was a prolific author and philosopher whose works gained international acclaim, particularly in the 1920s. His literary career thrived alongside his tumultuous personal life, including an affair with Friderike Maria von Winternitz and his later marriage to Lotte Altmann. Facing increasing persecution as a Jew in Europe, Zweig fled to England and then Brazil, where he penned his memoir, "The World of Yesterday." Tragically, he and his wife were found dead in their home in 1942, his life marked by both artistic brilliance and profound despair over the state of humanity.
