Off Island

In Off Island, novelist Lara Tupper reimagines Paul Gaugin fleeing to a remote Maine island to pursue his passion for vibrant color and new artistic horizons. A hundred years later, a contemporary Maine painter named Pete discovers himself torn between two muses—a stable partner and a restless spirit—highlighting themes of artistic pursuit, loyalty, and the allure of the unknown. The narrative explores the tension between following one's creative dreams and remaining connected to home and family.
