Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu, born in Dublin in 1814, was a prolific writer whose works often explore gothic horror and the supernatural, drawing on themes of Irish history and psychology. Educated at Trinity College and self-taught through his father’s library, he published his first story in 1838 and gained recognition for his short stories and novels, including those featuring haunted settings and supernatural elements. Following the tragic death of his wife in 1858, Le Fanu channeled his grief into his writing, cementing his reputation as a significant figure in 19th-century supernatural literature. He passed away in Dublin in 1873, leaving behind a lasting legacy of chilling, psychologically rich tales.
