Out of the Shadows

Lotte Reiniger was a pioneering German film director and animator renowned for her groundbreaking work in silhouette animation, particularly her 1926 film, The Adventures of Prince Achmed, the oldest surviving animated feature. Inspired by her childhood love of fairy tales and puppetry, she developed a distinctive style using paper cutouts and stop-motion techniques. Throughout her career, Reiniger produced over 40 films, earning recognition as a trailblazer in her field and an innovator of early filmmaking technology.
