Washington's Heir

In Washington's Heir, Gerard N. Magliocca presents the first biography of Bushrod Washington, a key but often overlooked Founding Father and George Washington's nephew. A Revolutionary War veteran and influential Supreme Court Justice, Bushrod played a vital role in shaping the U.S. Constitution and civil rights through landmark decisions. The book offers a nuanced look at his legacy, including his inheritance of Mount Vernon and his complex relationship with the institution of slavery.
