Set in 1924 Midwest during challenging times, the story follows 19-year-old Hallie Meredith, who is seeking stability after leaving a troubling job. She finds work as a cook with Garth Macleod’s nomadic threshing outfit, traveling from farm to farm. However, her newfound security faces threats from an ambitious rival intent on disrupting the operation.
