The Escape Line

The Dutch-Paris Escape Line was a remarkable resistance network during World War II, composed of ordinary citizens rather than Allied officers, and known for its transnational reach and diverse missions. Led by Jean Weidner, the group smuggled Dutch Jews, resistance fighters, political dissidents, Allied airmen, and others fleeing Nazi persecution from the Netherlands through France and into Switzerland and Spain. Despite their lack of formal military training, they conducted improvisational operations such as forging documents and scrounging for resources, risking capture and torture in their courageous efforts to undermine the Nazi regime.
