Hearts and Hands

William Sydney Porter, better known as O. Henry, was born in 1862 in North Carolina and faced early hardships, including the death of his mother. Despite his varied jobs in Texas—ranging from ranch hand to pharmacist—Porter pursued writing as a hobby, inspired by his wife Athol. After a series of personal tragedies and legal troubles, he served time in prison where he began publishing his famed short stories. Following his release, he became a prolific writer, contributing over 600 stories before his untimely death in 1910.
