A Harlem Tragedy

William Sydney Porter, better known as O. Henry, was born in 1862 in North Carolina and faced numerous challenges throughout his life, including the loss of his mother and the untimely death of his infant son. After a varied career in Texas and a brief stint in jail for embezzlement, he embraced writing, penning fourteen short stories while serving a prison sentence. Upon his release, O. Henry experienced a prolific period, publishing over 600 short stories, earning acclaim for his wit and twist endings, before his struggles with health issues culminated in his death in 1910.
