Celeste Marconi lives a peaceful life in the town of Valparaiso, Chile, until warships arrive and classmates begin disappearing, signaling a dangerous new reality. Her parents are forced into hiding amidst a government crackdown on artists and activists, prompting Celeste to be sent to America for her safety. As she adjusts to her new life in Maine, she holds onto her dreams of Chile and worries about whether her family will return and if she will ever be truly safe again.
