The Camel's Back

This short story, included in F. Scott Fitzgerald's collection Tales of the Jazz Age, was written swiftly in a single day in New Orleans with the purpose of purchasing a luxury watch. Fitzgerald describes it as one of his least labor-intensive and most amusing works, notably featuring a true-life story element involving a camel. The story was originally published in 1920 and later included in the O. Henry Memorial Collection.
