In 2079, after Earth’s defeat in the Sleer War, Lt. Simon Brooks, a skilled officer of the Unified Earth Fleet, is tasked with selecting new worlds for human colonization. After a misstep in training, he aims to prove his worth by targeting Vega, where he suspects hidden threats remain from the Sleer. As Brooks and the crew of the UES Gauntlet race to secure an ancient military base, they face challenges from interstellar politics, secret police, and competing factions, raising the question of whether victory in battle is truly significant amidst growing chaos.
