Libertie

Set against the backdrop of Reconstruction-era Brooklyn, Kaitlyn Greenidge’s novel follows Libertie Sampson, a young Black girl with dreams beyond her mother's medical aspirations. As she navigates her desire for independence and explores the meaning of freedom, she confronts societal limitations and personal choices that shape her journey. Rich with historical detail and inspired by one of the first Black female doctors in America, the story offers a profound exploration of autonomy and identity.
