In 1964, Viola MacMillan, a prominent figure in Canadian mining history, became involved in a major stock scandal involving her company, Windfall Oil and Mines. Despite her success and influence, the incident triggered widespread investor losses and prompted governmental investigations that led to reforms in Canada's securities regulation. Although she faced legal consequences, MacMillan was later pardoned and honored with the Order of Canada.
