When twelve-year-old Jen's widower father inherits a castlelike estate in West Virginia, she is initially overjoyed, but soon discovers that the changes may not be beneficial. His mysterious new girlfriend, Moura, becomes increasingly controlling, especially regarding the mansion's antiques, particularly a glass globe that Jen finds captivating. After an accident involving the globe, strange occurrences unfold, leading Jen to suspect Moura has sinister motives.
