In Leafwood Falls, Vermont, freelance web designer Kat Morrison devotes herself to caring for her mother Rose and her daughter Emma, skillfully balancing work and family commitments. Rose's captivating storytelling during community bookshop nights brings joy but also highlights the changes swirling around them, including Rose's declining health and Emma's growing restlessness. As Ben Walsh, a supportive parks department worker, enters the picture, Kat finds her meticulously controlled life unraveling.
