Massacre on the Merrimack

On March 15, 1697, Abenaki warriors raided the English village of Haverhill, Massachusetts, resulting in the death of 27 residents and the capture of 13, including Hannah Duston and her infant daughter. After witnessing her baby's murder during captivity, Duston planned her escape and, aided by two companions, executed a daring attack on their captors, killing several Abenaki before fleeing the scene in a stolen canoe. Their perilous journey down the Merrimack River involved navigating treacherous waters and threats of recapture, as they returned to share their harrowing tale.
