Elaine, an inexperienced orphan with limited magical talent, begins working at the Great Library in a world where magical ability confers power. When she inadvertently unlocks the Library's sealed knowledge, she becomes caught in a perilous situation involving powerful forces and a looming threat to her city and world. As she struggles to understand her newfound knowledge, she must stay out of danger from dark schemes that threaten to unleash catastrophic consequences.
