The Full Catastrophe

In The Full Catastrophe, thirteen-year-old Charlie Minkoff, who has intersex traits, navigates the challenges of adolescence alongside his grandfather Oscar, a ninety-year-old Holocaust survivor. Seeking to remedy a historical oversight, Charlie arranges a joint bar mitzvah for himself and Oscar, all while living with his artist mother in a rundown Winnipeg loft and grappling with the absence of his Orthodox Jewish father. Surrounded by a makeshift family—including his mother’s best friend, quirky neighbors, and his needy dog—Charlie’s journey is one of humor, tenderness, and the complexities of growing up amid secrets.
