At thirteen, William Sheppard is sent to the Swope Ranch Boys’ Reformatory after a violent altercation with his father. Nestled in the Colorado Mountains, Swope is infamous for transforming its young inmates, with whispers that those who enter emerge forever changed. Isolated from the outside world and watched by unforgiving guards, the boys at Swope are tasked with breaking wild mustangs, a process that mirrors their own struggles against violence and tragedy.
