In the Adirondack Mountains, an escaped prisoner named Ronnie Gatrell skillfully evades the police, earning a mixed reputation among locals in Trout Run; some view him as a folk hero while others see him as a harmless trickster. However, Police Chief Frank Bennett recognizes the threat Ronnie poses and is determined to capture him before he causes harm.
