Wilkie Collins, born in 1824 in London, embarked on a literary journey that began in his youth, inspired by experiences in France and Italy and the pressures of a school bully who demanded bedtime stories. While his early efforts faced rejection, a pivotal friendship with Charles Dickens catalyzed his writing career, leading to the publication of numerous works, including the groundbreaking novel "The Moonstone." Despite battling ill-health and a tumultuous personal life marked by complicated relationships and opium dependency, Collins produced a prolific body of work that includes 30 novels, 14 plays, and numerous essays. He passed away in 1889, leaving an indelible mark on English literature.
