In the aftermath of a devastating rainstorm that floods Death Valley, a park ranger discovers a body buried in debris, revealing a murder rather than an accidental drowning. The FBI steps in, assigning investigator Zack Tolliver to the case, who teams up with Tisha Knolls from the Park Service Investigative Services Branch. Meanwhile, Zack's friend Eagle Feather conducts a separate search for a missing individual linked to a naval ordinance firing range at China Lake. As both investigations unfold, they uncover a complex web of rare minerals, space technology, indigenous communities, industrial greed, and murder.
