Among the Ruins

In "Among the Ruins" by Ausma Zehanat Khan, Esa Khattak, on leave from Canada’s Community Policing department, travels to Iran to reconnect with his cultural roots but is soon pulled into a complex investigation after the murder of Canadian-Iranian filmmaker Zahra Sobhani. As he navigates Iran’s chaotic political landscape under surveillance, he enlists the help of his partner, Detective Rachel Getty, who uncovers connections to historical conspiracies and a web of intrigue extending from Tehran to Toronto. Together, they strive to ascertain whether Zahra's death was a political act or something deeply personal, revealing unexpected layers of intrigue and humanity along the way.
