In the spring of 1957, top high school graduate Jacob Versteeg navigates the complexities of his past, having been adopted after his childhood in a German concentration camp. Raised in a loving family in Chicago, Jacob grapples with the emotional void left by his biological parents. As he embarks on a summer study course in West Germany after his freshman year at Wheaton College, he confronts the challenges of his history and seeks the courage to move forward on his journey from war.
