Fantasies of Nina Simone

Fantasies of Nina Simone explores the complex ways in which the legendary artist's life and work have been shaped by collective and individual fantasies, both about her as a performer and as a symbol. Jordan Alexander Stein examines how Simone used covers of her white male contemporaries to express personal and political perspectives, highlighting her genre-defying career spanning four decades. The book uses psychoanalytic theory to build a nuanced black feminist history of Simone's multifaceted artistry and enduring cultural impact.
