Ethan and his son, Atton, face imminent execution for treason as their ship, the Defiant, finds itself stranded in Sythian Space with no hope for rescue after their last chance has been destroyed. In the midst of chaos, the notorious crime lord Alec Brondi is scheming to capture the remnants of Admiral Hoff's fleet, leading him to seek refuge in Dark Space.
