The Refugee's Daughter

In the turmoil of winter 1945, as the Soviet army invades East Prussia, thirteen-year-old Giti and her brother Otto face unimaginable horrors when their family is attacked and their home destroyed. After witnessing the brutal loss of their grandmother and the death of their mother during a tumultuous train journey, Giti finds herself alone in a dark, frightening world. Severing ties with her brother, she is rescued by a disabled veteran in the woods, and together they navigate survival amid the chaos, while Giti clings to hope of reuniting with Otto. As danger looms with the arrival of Russian soldiers, she must confront the harsh realities of her situation and the uncertainty of their future.
