In Victorian London, eighteen-year-old Dorothy St. James struggles to control her magic, isolating herself to avoid the noose that awaits magic users. When her father is kidnapped by a notorious figure known as the Rook, she is forced to team up with the enigmatic illusionist Ashley Gardner, who might hold the key to finding him.
