As the glaciers of the Sierra Nevada melt, transforming the landscape into what will become California, the coastal people face mounting challenges with the loss of their spiritual connection and the dwindling mammoth population. Amidst this upheaval, Sunchaser, their seer, grapples with his faltering guidance from the Spirit World and the arrival of a beautiful woman fleeing an abusive marriage.
