In 1881 Chicago, Shakespearean actress Lilly Long embarks on her second case as a Pinkerton detective alongside her reluctant partner, Cade McShane, who is seeking redemption after a recent scandal. Their assignment takes them to New Orleans, where they must pose as husband and wife servants in a wealthy family's mansion to investigate the suspicious commitment of a young widow. As they navigate a web of secrets, betrayal, voodoo curses, and murder, Lilly and Cade must overcome their differences and solve the case before the widow faces a dire fate.
