British soldier and former artist Peter Lennox, a POW in an Italian prison camp, endures hardships and repeated escapes, with his artistic pursuits temporarily halted by war wounds. Following Italy's surrender to the Allies in September 1943, he is assigned to assist resistance fighters in the South Tyrol mountains. Using his courage and local knowledge, Lennox plays a crucial role in supporting an impending Allied offensive that could influence the war's outcome.
