As sisters Kate and Mary grapple with the death of their repressive father, they face the challenges of supporting themselves and their mother, who is in a permanent vegetative state. With Kate's aspirations of attending Stanford and becoming a doctor on the line, she is pulled in different directions by her boyfriend Simon, the alluring Andy, and Mary's complicated feelings for Marcos, a man with a troubled past.
