In the winter of 1950, Gemma Brown, an amateur sleuth and new resident of the Cotswold village of Great Rollright, suspects that the village's best baker, Ursula Beurton, may be a Soviet spy. As Gemma strives to create her ideal life and establish the village's first bookstore, she navigates the intricacies of small-town life and forms a friendship with Peggy, a fellow newcomer.
