In a whimsical turn-of-the-century England, Lt. Benjamin Braddock returns home from a brutal war, feeling out of place in a society that appears to have moved on without him. Burdened by the ghost of his commanding officer and a lack of purpose, he finds himself reluctantly drawn into the lives of the wealthy family eager to adopt him into their world.
