Samurai Shortstop

In 1890 Tokyo, high school student Toyo Shimada faces the harsh realities of boarding school life, where upperclassmen bully newcomers and sports aspirations are thwarted. While grappling with the recent suicide of his uncle and the implications of his family's samurai legacy, Toyo seeks to bridge the widening gap with his father, who strictly adheres to traditional values. As he pursues a spot on the baseball team, Toyo questions whether this "Western" sport can embody the virtues of his heritage and earn his father's acceptance.
