First published in 1872, Poor Miss Finch follows Lucilla Finch, a young woman blinded by an accident and living with her devoted companion, Madame Pratolungo, and her fiancé, Oscar Dubourg. When experimental surgery offers her a chance to regain her sight, a love triangle emerges involving Lucilla, Oscar, and his identical twin, Nugent. The novel explores themes of identity, perception, and the repercussions of societal expectations, masterfully intertwining elements of mystery, romance, and social commentary.
