In this coming-of-age story, sixteen-year-old Desiree "Dez" Sarpe seeks a fresh start for her family after the death of their abusive patriarch, relocating to the Wyoming high plains. Struggling to find work, she begins an unexpected relationship with her elderly neighbor, Granny Iyaga, who teaches her both housecleaning and enigmatic magic.
