In early 1957, Sarah Dewhurst and her father, outcasts in their town of Frome, Washington, hire a dragon named Kazimir to help with their struggling farm, a desperate choice made by only the poorest families. Despite the belief that dragons lack souls, Kazimir shows unexpected depth, determined to keep Sarah safe as a prophecy unfolds around them. This prophecy entangles them in a web involving a deadly assassin, a cult of dragon worshippers, and two pursuing FBI agents, with Sarah at the center of it all.
