Reagan's Star Wars

"Reagan's Star Wars" explores the evolution of the Strategic Defense Initiative (SDI) against the backdrop of the Military Industrial Complex, which President Eisenhower famously warned against. Drawing on firsthand experience as a corporate Vice President in the aerospace industry, the author details the concerns of major US aerospace companies fearing budget cuts amid the declining threat from the USSR in the early 1980s. Through strategic studies and persuasive pitches to military and government officials, they ultimately influenced President Reagan to propose the SDI, a program aimed at shifting US defense strategy away from the old doctrine of Mutual Assured Destruction.
