The Histories

Herodotus, often called "The Father of History," was a Greek historian from Halicarnassus who lived in the fifth century BC. His sole work, The Histories, provides a critical investigation into the origins of the Greco-Persian Wars, blending historical narrative with geographical and ethnographical details. Though some accounts may be fanciful or inaccurate, he aimed to report what he had been told, with much later corroborated by historians and archaeologists. This version of The Histories, translated by A. D. Godley and first published in 1920, is divided into nine sections and invites readers to explore the complexities of ancient history.
