Merrily Watkins, a parish priest and single mother, is unexpectedly appointed as the Church of England's Deliverance Consultant, a role historically viewed with suspicion. As winter descends on Hereford, she confronts dark challenges that escalate when a body is discovered in the River Wye, an ancient church is desecrated, and ominous signs of evil manifest in the cathedral, where a medieval saint’s tomb lies shattered.
