A Distant Shore

In Caryl Phillips' A Distant Shore, Dorothy and Solomon navigate their solitary lives in a new housing estate on the outskirts of an English village. As a retired music teacher and a night watchman and immigrant, their paths intersect briefly, revealing their struggles with displacement and the weight of their pasts. Through their compelling stories, Phillips explores themes of isolation, identity, and the complexities of human connection in a world that often rejects them.
